According to the Seattle Times the Microsoft Zune has already slipped from 2nd place to 5th place in portable music player sales.

New toy: Orion Min-EQ tabe-top german equatorial mount

I have been wanting this little GEM (pun intended) for many years now, since back when I was more into astronomy than photography.I finally had the financial means to buy this as well as its companion clock drive (EQ-1M). I do a more detailed write up Gear Review site.

Lego lens?

I discovered that my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens may be made by Lego. Today, while I was taking a lunch break on the Elliot Bay Water Taxi I was pulling my windbreaker out of my camera back when I heard that awful *whack* sound that only a lens dropping in a steel deck can make. The only sound worse than that is the clickity of two distinct pieces rolling independantly of eachother.

Yet another way you can work for Google and not get paid

They have a new service (game?) that you can use to help them properly keyword random images thay may otherwise lack them in their search engine. Its called Google Image Labeler.Despite the idea that you're doing their work for them, its actually a bit of fun. Though I seem to run into more than a few people who have no idea what a lot of things are or use too simple of words to describe the image, like "man" or "tree". I don't see how those help Google, but I suppose they probably have that figured out.

Two in one day? Nope. Its a volcano.

This little bugger caught my eye, at first it looked like a nice, clean impact site, raised rim with sand drifting. Then I realized that the terrain next to it looked a lot like a lava field. Then, to the ENE is another similar lava field with very obvious vulcanization. Darn.

Another Impact? Could be.

So another one I have less confidence in but I'll make record of it just in case. I figure publishing it here is my way of saying "Dibs!" as if there was some sort of meteor impact land grab or something. Anyways, I present to you suspect impact site number two.Initially it looked promising but the more I examined it, with NASA's World Wind height exaggeration feature, its looking less and less probably, but there are certain features of it that make it an interesting possibility.

2 Weeks in the Caribbean

After 2 weeks and 9 islands in the Caribbean, what can I say other than I wish I was still there? It was a great vacation, the whole family had a blast. Details and photos at my photo site.

Home Improvement - so close to being done!

We really worked hard around Christmas to get the kids' rooms done before the end of the year, and aside from a few minor tasks, we accomplished it. Hayley's room is complete aside from the formica I need to glue to MDF for her counter and desktops. Cohen's room has a hole to fix in the ceiling where I clumsily broke through.. The master bedroom is finished save for one piece of crown moulding which I need to grind down to fit a severe bow in the ceiling (almost 3/8" of an inch). Some touch ups of paint and caullk and we're there.
